The Schaumburg Park District recently started construction that will add walkways, gardens and a Tribute Park at the outdoor facility located adjacent to Schaumburg Road and Salem Drive.
The Tribute Park will commemorate and honor the achievements of Schaumburg residents and others who have made a positive impact on the community. This peaceful park area along Volkening Lake will serve as a lasting memorial for visitors. The path around Volkening Lake also will be widened to 10 feet.
“The Volkening Lake recreation area will return better than ever,” said Todd King, superintendent of parks and planning for Schaumburg Park District.
Commemorative pathway stones in three sizes will be available to purchase with personalized messages. The memorial stones will be placed throughout the walkways and walls of the park. Benches also are featured in the Tribute program. Both will be available for purchase beginning in February.
Proceeds from Tribute stones benefit the Schaumburg Park Foundation.
Volkening Lake is home to paddle boat and canoe rentals, ample parking, special events and handicapped accessible paths.
