Green Infrastructure Grant Meeting Dec. 4

Nov 20, 2012

Earlier this year the Schaumburg Park District and the Village of Schaumburg applied for and was successful in receiving a "Green Infrastructure Grant" from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA). These grants are given out to projects designed to reduce the amount of pollution running into Illinois waterways from stormwater sources.

An informational meeting will be held at 6 p.m., Dec. 4 at the Jerry Handlon Administration Building, 235 E. Beech Drive.

The scope of this project will include a variety of components. Some of these include replacing storm water infrastructure and implementing a variety of shoreline treatment to prevent future erosion by establishing native planting areas.

"Green infrastructure" means any storm water management practice with the goal of preserving or restoring natural hydrology. Green infrastructure includes methods of using soil and vegetation to promote soil percolation, evapotranspiration and filtration, and involves the preservation and restoration of natural landscape features, such as forests, floodplains, headwaters and wetlands.
