Silver Games promote friendly competition, active fun

Aug 18, 2016

Seniors may engage in good-natured rivalry during the Schaumburg Park District’s Silver Games, presented by Schaumburg Bank & Trust, a Wintrust Community Bank.

The games kick off at 10 a.m., Sept. 12 and run through Sept. 15 at locations throughout Schaumburg, including Friendship Village, 350 W. Schaumburg Road, and the Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springsguth Road. Featuring 32 events, competitions include a mile walk, bocce ball, pinochle, water volleyball, table tennis, golf and a fishing derby.

“The Silver Games are for all levels and abilities.” said Lisa Perrone, senior supervisor for the Schaumburg Park District. “Some participants will compete in less physical contests including a word search and Sudoku.”

A 9-hole golf tournament is planned from 8 to 11 a.m., Sept. 14 at Schaumburg Golf Club, 401 N. Roselle Road.

Awards will be celebrated with a closing feast and entertainment from 4-5 p.m., Sept. 16 at Friendship Village.

Cost to participate in the games is $10, with an additional $15 required to participate in the golf tournament. Closing feast admission is $5. The deadline to register is Sept. 2.

“The games are competitive, but competitiveness is not the goal,” Perrone said. “We’re is making friends and having a good time. This gives seniors in Schaumburg an opportunity to do something for their mind, body and soul while they take time for fun.”
