The Schaumburg Park District’s Community Recreation Center has won the Illinois Park & Recreation Association’s (IPRA) Outstanding Park & Facility Award. The award is given to public agencies for exceptional and unique achievements in design and development.
In 2015, the District embarked on a major renovation of the CRC, 505 N. Springinsguth Road, with the goal of modernizing outdated areas and increasing square footage. The project resulted in a number of improvements including:
- Approximately 22,000 sq. feet of new and renovated program and fitness space
- New multi-purpose aerobic studio
- Renovated fitness center
- New visual arts room
- Energy efficient LED lighting in all new rooms
- Additional restrooms
- Increased program offerings
- ADA improvements
The District undertook the improvement project after reviewing results from its most recent Citizen Attitude and Interest Survey. The District periodically undertakes these surveys to gauge patron satisfaction. The latest survey, conducted in 2013, indicated a need for improvements and additional fitness space at the CRC.
“Schaumburg Park District is honored to receive this award,” stated Tony LaFrenere, executive director. “The Board and Staff pride themselves on improving services by listening and responding to the needs of the community. The CRC renovation project is a great testament to this philosophy.”
The District will receive the award on Jan. 20 at the IPRA Business Meeting.
