Take your love of singing from the shower to the Schaumburg Park District.
Schaumburg Idol auditions are set for April 27 at the Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road. Twelve contestants will be chosen to compete for eight spots which will then be narrowed down to four, then two and eventually one Schaumburg Idol. Contestants advance according to the highest combined votes from judges and the community. Prizes include an opportunity to record a demo CD at a professional studio.
As part of the Idol process, contestants also have a chance to work with and receive feedback from professional musicians. The 12 contestants chosen will record performances at the District’ s TV studio to be broadcast at Parkfun.com and on Comcast Channel 15, Wide Open West Channel 14 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99.
“Anyone who’s interested in a singing career has to get over their fear of singing in public and this is a good way to gain that type of experience,” said Beth Waller, cultural arts supervisor for the District. “We help contestants by teaching them proper techniques and exposing them to what it would be like to audition for any type of singing opportunity. We try to make it really fun for them as well.”
To be eligible for Schaumburg Idol, contestants must be 13 or older and not party to a contract for performing services. Interested individuals must register, complete the audition entry form and pay the audition fee at parkfun.com. Once registered, contestants will be contacted to set up an audition time. Contestants must perform a one-minute selection from a song of their choice. Performances may be a cappella or accompanied by a cassette or CD provided by the contestant. No rap songs or inappropriate language is permitted.
Audition fee is $5 for residents and $8 for non-residents. Fee for those chosen to compete is $25 for residents and $35 for non-residents.
