Hop on a bicycle and celebrate Schaumburg’s German Heritage during the annual Fahrrad Tour Von Schaumburg Bike Ride & Picnic.
Set for noon to 2:15 p.m., May 21, Schaumburg Park District’s annual ride is sponsored by Amita Health and the Village of Schaumburg.
The police-guided tour starts at Blackwell Elementary School, 345 N. Walnut Lane and ends at the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center, 101 Schaumburg Court.
The more than five-mile, one-hour ride concludes with a picnic including a hot dog or brat, chips and a drink. A limited supply of T-shirts will be available for $10. Musical entertainment will be provided by a DJ at the end of the tour.
“It’s a fun event for the entire community,” said Kathleen Benson, Bock Neighborhood Center manager and general program supervisor. “The bike tour encourages participants to come out and get some exercise and fresh air with friends.”
Registration is not required and there is no cost to participate. All cyclists must sign a liability waiver before departure and will receive wristbands that allow access to the picnic.
Bus transportation will be available starting at 1:45 p.m. from the Municipal Center back to Blackwell.
Because of the distance, beginners and riders with training wheels are not advised to participate.
