The prairie fires that awed early settlers to Illinois were vital to the health of the prairie landscape. This popular program provides insight into just how important fire was—and still is—to natural areas. Participants are invited to start the evening with a picnic behind the Nature Center. Bring a picnic or purchase grilled food and beverages. Following dinner and a brief presentation, a portion of Spring Valley’s prairie will be burned at sunset, visible from a safe distance. This is a sight not to be missed! Alternate rain date is April 12.
Admission fee is $12 per family (up to six people) or $3 per person.
