Schaumburg Idol 2014 Contestants

Eleven contestants are vying for the honor of becoming the next Schaumburg Idol. Read more about the contestants below.

Donna Chung

Training/Background: I have been performing in my church choir since I was little. I took voice studies in college for three years.

Interesting information about yourself: I love doing arts and crafts and have participated in arts and craft shows for three years.

Favorite style of music: Jazz, classical

Future goals: My goal is to sing for events in Chicago.

Why the public should vote for you: I have a lot of love for singing and helping people.


Alexxis Coleman 

Training/Background: I have been singing since I was a little girl. I have been working with a vocal coach since I was 9 years old. I have been in a lot of recitals and school shows.

Interesting information about yourself: I am obsessed with doing makeup. I learned how to do makeup from my aunt and love doing it for fun.

Favorite style of music: I love all types of music but my favorite would be country.

Future goals: I plan on moving to Nashville, TN when I graduate high school. I will be attending Vanderbilt for singing/songwriting.

Why the public should vote for you: I want to be known for my voice, not my story.

 

Kaitlyn DiSalvo 

Training/Background: I have been singing since I was able to talk... I am a member of my school choir as well as the select choir and church choir. I have been invited to study with a college director for two consecutive years.

Interesting information about yourself: I was a previous Idol contestant in 2013. When I was little, I would always perform for my parents and enjoyed doing cheer and dance for fun.

Favorite style of music: I like a variety - but mostly pop music.

Future goals: Music in some format will always be in my life. I would love to make a career out of singing. For now, I am experimenting with my vocal range and taking every chance to learn and grow.

Why the public should vote for you: I am a passionate singer and work hard to overcome my fears and grow. I want to be an inspiration for others.

 

Carly Kramer 

Training/Background: I have been in six Schaumburg Park District musicals and have been in school choir for three years. I have taken voice lessons for two years through SPD and am a member of the National Music Honor Society.

Interesting Information about yourself: I won Schaumburg's Got Talent 2013 with my sister. I'm also on Expressions Dance Company's Elite Competitive Team.

Favorite style of music: Show tunes and rock.

Future goal: My goals are to be on broadway and write my own music or be an actress.

Why the public should vote for you: I want to share my love for performing with everyone. I also hope to inspire people to pursue their own dream.

 

Nikitha Lakshminaraynan

Training/Background: I have been singing for as long as I can remember! For the past eight years, I have been professionally trained in Carnatic (classical Indian) music. I have been in choir for the past four years and was recently the lead in my school musical.

Interesting Information about yourself: When I'm not singing, you can find me on the tennis court. I hope to be on my high school's varsity tennis team. Other than singing and playing tennis, I LOVE to dance!

Favorite style of music: Although my playlist consists of multiple genres of music, my personal favorites are R&B and pop.

Future goal: As I grow older, I hope to improve my singing and get more experience performing. Someday, I want to reach the dynamic vocal power of Adele or Demi Lovato. I would like to attend Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music and study medicine.

Why the public should vote for you: Coming from a culture where academics are the main focus, I have always turned to singing as a way to express myself as an individual. Growing up, I was constantly discouraged from doing the thing that I loved most, singing. I battled my insecurities and kept doing what I loved. As Schaumburg Idol, I hope I can serve as an inspiration for other children struggling to express themselves in the constant face of adversity. 

 

John Peterson 

Training/Background: I have no training. I found my voice and stage presence through karaoke on a dare.

Interesting Information about yourself: I am an Elvis impersonator.

Favorite style of music: Pretty much everything except rap and hip-hop.

Future goal: My goal is to keep singing and being an Elvis impersonator as long as I can.

Why the public should vote for you: I'm good at what I do and have fun with it.

 

Nathan Pusch 

Training/Background: I have been in school choir since elementary school and have participated in eight SPD plays.

Interesting information about yourself: I like medieval artifacts and enjoy participating in the District musicals.

Favorite style of music: 60s-80s Rock/Pop.

Future goals: I want to go to the University of Illinois and become a chemical and mechanical engineer.

Why the public should vote for you: Because I'm dedicated to this competition and am a good role model to younger kids.

 

Emma Robie

Training/Background: I've been doing musical theater for 10 years and taking vocal lessons for two. I am in my high school concert choir.

Interesting information about yourself: I have been dancing since I was 3! I do a little bit of everything but my favorite is tap dance. 

Favorite style of music: I love Broadway music but I also enjoy music from older groups.

Future goal: I would like to go to medical school and become a forensic pathologist.

Why the public should vote for you: I want to share my love of music and hope that people will see it in my performances.

 

Amy Rodriguez

Training/Background: I play bass in my school orchestra and have taken piano lessons since I was 7. I've been in nine theater productions with the District's Putting on Productions.

Interesting Information about yourself: I play string bass, violin, piano and electric bass guitar.

Favorite style of music: I love Disney and Alternative music.

Future goal: I plan on becoming an engineer and I strive to be lead in a musical.

Why the public should vote for you: The public should vote for me because when I set a goal I will do everything in my power to achieve that goal. I want to show everyone what I can do and I plan on demonstrating my determination as well as my skills in this competition.

 

Rebecca Schumaker

Training/Background: I've sung in my church's choir and have been taking voice lessons for two years.

Training/Background: I enjoy inspiring others through music. Besides performing, I love cooking and studying world languages.


Favorite style of music:
Pop.

Future goal: I dream of becoming a pop singer.

Why the public should vote for you: The public should pick me because it has always been my dream to sing and if I win, I hope to inspire anyone, that anything is possible.

 

Katrina Smith

Training/Background: I have been taking voice lessons for three years and have been playing the piano for two. I sing in my school choir and have been in about 10 or more shows and performances.

Interesting information about yourself: I enjoy doing many different things. Some of my favorite things to do are sing, act, dance, and hang out with friends. I enjoy being part of several community theaters and am currently performing in my 10th show.

Favorite style of music: I like all kinds of music. Each kind of music has it's own style and story to it. But, if I had to choose a favorite, I would choose pop music.

Future goal: In the future I hope to have a job that helps others, and if I can help others through music that would be my dream come true.

Why the public should vote for you: I think that the public should vote for me because I have been inspired by music since I was little and I want to be that inspiration for others. This is a good opportunity to share my voice and hopefully bring joy and happiness into other people's lives through music.
