Schaumburg Park District Celebrates Statewide Recognition at Illinois Park and Recreation Association/Illinois Association of Park Districts Conference

The Illinois Park and Recreation Association/Illinois Association of Park Districts Soaring to New Heights Conference proved to be a meaningful and celebratory event for the District, as Schaumburg Park District and its leadership were recognized with several prestigious statewide honors.

Board President Bob Schmidt was named the Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD) Commissioner of the Year, recognizing his more than 20 years of dedicated service, leadership and advocacy for parks and recreation. Schmidt’s impact has helped shape Schaumburg Park District into a nationally respected organization focused on innovation, community connection and quality of life.

In addition, Board Commissioner Bernie Mayle was recognized during the IAPD Annual Business Meeting for achieving Master Board Member status. This prestigious designation honors commissioners who go above and beyond through committee involvement, continuing education and service at the local, state and national levels. Commissioners Bob Schmidt and Brian Berg, Jr. have also previously earned Master Board Member status, reflecting the Board’s strong commitment to governance and professional development. Board Member Jack Trudel has earned the Distinctive Board Member recognition through IAPD.

Schaumburg Park District was also honored with the Illinois Park and Recreation Association (IPRA) Exceptional Workplace Award, recognizing the District’s commitment to creating a positive, supportive and engaging work environment for employees.

Administered by IPRA, the Exceptional Workplace Award is granted for a five-year term to agencies that meet or exceed 48 criteria demonstrating excellence in workplace culture. Criteria areas include employee physical and mental wellness, training and continuing education, communication, team building, diversity and inclusion initiatives, environmental practices and community engagement.

“These recognitions reflect the dedication of our staff, commissioners and leadership team,” said Schaumburg Park District Executive Director Tony LaFrenere. “From governance and workplace culture to programs and facilities, everything we do is focused on serving our community and enhancing quality of life through parks and recreation.”

The District looks forward to building on the ideas, connections and inspiration gained at the conference as it continues its mission to provide exceptional parks, programs and open spaces for residents of all ages.
