Based on the Forest Kindergarten concept popular in Europe, Schaumburg Park District’s Spring Valley, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road, is hosting an outdoor preschool experience for children ages 4-5. Class takes place noon-2 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept.8-Dec. 17.
Class will meet at Merkle Cabin and all activities will be held outside in nature. Children will learn about cooperation, helping and sharing, as well as be introduced to numbers, letters and basic natural history information.
“Nature is full of opportunities to teach young children important life skills and fundamentals,” said Dave Brooks, manager of Spring Valley. “In other parts of the world, this type of preschool is very popular and the benefits are tremendous, including increased creativity, problem-solving skills, and improved social and emotional development.”
All children must be accompanied by a parent. In case of inclement weather, class will take place inside Merkle Cabin.
