Please note: The event time was originally 5-7 p.m. but has been changed to 3-5 p.m.
The prairie fires that awed early settlers in Illinois were vital to the health of the prairie landscape. This popular event provides an increased understanding of how important fire was (and still is) to our natural areas. We’ll start with a picnic and brief presentation behind the Nature Center (grilled food and beverages will be available for purchase, or you may bring your own). After the presentation, sit back and watch as trained staff carefully ignite a portion of the prairie — a sight not to be missed!
Children 2 and younger are free. Please park at the Nature Center. Please note that this event will be canceled in the event of rain or high winds.
