Nature Center

Due to ongoing COVID mitigations, the Spring Valley Nature Center remains closed to visitors. We hope to open the Nature Center for limited visitation starting in spring, 2021. Numerous family and youth programs are scheduled for both winter and spring. Please see our virtual Program Guide for more information. As the situation continues to evolve, cancellations and closure information may change.

Vera Meineke Nature Center at Spring Valley

The Vera Meineke Nature Center at Spring Valley is an earth-sheltered, passive-solar natural history museum and visitor center. It includes interactive exhibits on local plants and animals, a children’s activity area, library, and living turtle pond display. Adjacent to the Nature Center is a Kid’s Vegetable Garden, Backyards for Wildlife display, and a new Monarch Rearing & Education Station. The Monarch Rearing Station operates from May – September and includes daily butterfly releases, weather permitting.

The Nature Center also provides information on programs and events, program registration, restrooms, and a gift sale area.

Hours of Operation

Summer (April 1 -Oct. 31)

  • Museum & Visitor Center: Daily, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Grounds & Trails: Daily, 8 a.m.-8 p.m.

Winter (Nov. 1 -March 31)

  • Museum & Visitor Center: Daily, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Grounds & Trails: Daily: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All facilities closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's.
