With the continuing spread of the COVID-19 virus, we are taking all necessary steps to protect the health and safety of our guests and staff. Based on guidance put out by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the declaration of a national emergency, we will be closing all public facilities, including Spring Valley Nature Center, and canceling programs, events, rentals and camps at the end of business through March 29. As the situation continues to evolve, cancellations and closure information may change.
The Vera Meineke Nature Center at Spring Valley is an earth-sheltered, passive-solar natural history museum and visitor center. It includes interactive exhibits on local plants and animals, a children’s activity area, library, and living turtle pond display. Adjacent to the Nature Center is a Kid’s Vegetable Garden, Backyards for Wildlife display, and a new Monarch Rearing & Education Station. The Monarch Rearing Station operates from May – September and includes daily butterfly releases, weather permitting.
The Nature Center also provides information on programs and events, program registration, restrooms, and a gift sale area.
All facilities closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's.
